As such, we’ll teach you to identify audiences and analyze them before creating targeted communications and getting real-world feedback. We’ll cover essential communication principles, how you and your organization are perceived, and the role of digital media.

Kristen Pedersen, PhD

Kristen Pedersen, PhD, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Media Communication and a Master of Arts in Communication, both from the University of South Alabama, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Communication from Bournemouth University in Poole, England. In addition to being the Director of Continuing and Professional Education for Norwich, she teaches university online coursework in communication, leadership, and public relations. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Pedersen has a deep personal connection to the military and an affinity for designing programs and courses specifically for cadets, active duty and veteran students.


Strategic Communication Fundamentals and Planning
To lay the ground work for understanding, you’ll start by exploring roles and functions of strategic communication in organizations. Then, through videos, readings, quizzes, discussions, and other assignments, you’ll evaluate the various recipients of information to identify the most appropriate manner and channel for communicating with each, and get hands-on experience crafting strategic messages that suit those contexts.

  • Handling internal versus external communications
  • Professional ethics in communication
  • Understanding relevant legal issues
  • Identifying how values impact communication choices
  • Building portfolios with new and robust visual evidence presentations that are credible, clear, persuasive, and beautiful
  • Using a more purpose-driven approach when creating graphic representations of data
